Downtown Denton Holiday Fun, Shopping, Dining and Entertainment Keeps It Local

Several downtown merchants are taking part the City of Denton and Denton Chamber of Commerce efforts in partnering with American Express and FedEx in support of SHOP SMALL SATURDAY on November 28. Since 2010, customers and small businesses alike have been able to kick start their holiday shopping season on a day celebrating the uniqueness, charm and economic impact that small businesses bring to communities nationwide. Recognized as Small Business Saturday – it takes place the Saturday following Thanksgiving each year – this celebratory day was founded to encourage consumers across the country to support local, small businesses within their hometowns and beyond.

Come downtown on Saturday, Nov. 28th to Shop Small and enter the I Shop Small selfie contest. Look for the selfie signs in participating locations and use #SHOPSMALLDENTON (hash tag I Shop Small Denton) in every selfie on social media.

After all the shopping and dining over Thanksgiving, come back downtown for the 17th Annual Wassail Fest the next weekend.  The Downtown Denton merchants will stir up their favorite recipes to compete for the coveted titles of King or Queen, Duke or Duchess, and Lord or Lady of Wassail.  Wassail Fest, a tasting event held during annual Denton Holiday Lighting Festival on Friday, Dec. 4th, will also offer an afternoon of tastings and other holiday fun on Saturday, Dec. 5th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The expansion of hours for wassail tasting allows even more visitors to enjoy this downtown Denton tradition all weekend.  The Wassail Stops, in various merchant locations around downtown, will be open Friday night, Dec. 4th from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Dec. 5th from 2 to 5 p.m., with some special activities.  Tasting is free and open to all ages.  This year 38 restaurants, stores and business member locations around Downtown will participate.  The list of Wassail Stops is available on the Events page of the website, www.dentonmainstreet.org and information will be posted on the Downtown Denton-Denton Main Street Association Facebook page, on Twitter and Instragram @DentonMSA. Voting can be done by paper ballot, or NEW this year is voting via Facebook, Twitter or Instragram. Simply post a pic with your favorite stops hashtag on Friday night or Saturday afternoon to any of those three and your vote is cast instantly. Hashtags will be posted at each Wassail Stop, on ballots and on this site.

Around the block, around the clock…it’s happening in #DowntownDenton!
